New Option: Automatic Sampler

A new option for the TOXcontrol and iTOXcontrol is the “Automatic Refrigerated Sampler” that takes care of sampling when necessary. As soon as a the system gives a toxicity alarm the sampler takes a sample.

Spare Parts Manual

We have finished two new Spare Part manuals, one for the TOXcontrol and one for the iTOXcontrol. These manuals contains a summary of all parts, tools, reagents, consumables and options. All items are described including picture and reference number. The manuals are available on our FTP-server.

Spindle upgrade

There is developed a spindle upgrade for the TOXcontrol with the following benefits :
a. Better quality mechanical assembly
b. Improved electronic control
c. Higher accuracy

d. Noise reduction

Validation of SPE-TOXcontrol for the determination of metals in drinking water

The potential of SPE-TOXcontrol as a new early warning system to detect possible hazards in drinking water was assessed. The work was done in the framework of the WATMATIN project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation….

Improved sensitivity to heavy metals in the bioluminescence assay using alternative salt solutions

Because of the general presence of metals in our environment, study of their toxicity is important. In chloride containing media, many metals form chlorocomplexes resulting in an increase of the EC50 values. In order to improve the sensitivity of the test, especially for online monitoring using the iTOXcontrol , alternative salt mixtures were tested: sucrose, NaClO4 and the ProMet buffer of microLAN.

Notice TOXmini Users

As of now we strongly recommend the use of the adapter vials. The adapter vial needs to be placed into the sample holder to protect the photomultiplier from being contaminated and for optimal measuring results. The adapter vial may remain permanently in the shaft and only needs to be removed for cleaning and/or replacement.

If you do have a TOXmini but do not have the adapter vials, please contact us and we will make sure that you will receive them free of charge. To order adapter vials in the future the adapter vials are added to our pricelist. If you already have the adapter vials , the advice from now on is that an adapter vial is placed in the sample holder before starting the tests.

Development of aquatic biomonitoring models for surface waters used for drinking water supply

A thesis by Eric Penders from “The Water Laboratory”, that concludes that quality control of surface water and drinking water treatment procedures should be further optimized and taken from the stage of hazard-based decision making to a stage of risk-based quality control and decision making.

In this thesis (among other studies) the following study is performed : “Increasing the sensitivity of online biological early warning systems (e.g. TOXcontrol) for surface water quality control by integrating SPE”
