2004-04-18 Setac Prague 04/2004 with special session on On-line Biomonitoring -> procedings available

SETAC-EUROPE conference (18- 24. April 2004, Prague)

SPECIAL SESSION ON ‘ON-LINE BIOMONITORING’

This conference is one of the largest annual meetings of scientists and managers from academia, industry and government within the field of environmental sciences. A short overview over the conference event is given under  http://www.setaceu.org/

There will be many sessions but for the first time a full oral and a poster session will be devoted for ‘online biomonitoring’. Online biomonitoring and the development of Biological Early Warning and Alert Systems has received increasing attention within the last decades due to spectacular pollution accidents in transboundary rivers, the threat of chemical and biological terrorism and pollution waves during flood events.

Some biomonitors have already been developed and in use, others are currently still under development and new ideas and concepts are evolving. This session has a very broad title, which allows participants to submit contributions from different approaches, e.g. biochemical to organismal level, or the use nanotechnology and robotics.

New and innovative presentations will be shown, but reports on long-term monitoring experiences with established methods will be discussed.

The aim of this session is to show a wide range of high quality contributions from different working groups and individual scientists, as well as from governmental organisations and industry. We hope that this session might also be a good starting point for further cooperation and creation of a pan-European network for ‘on-line biomonitoring’.

Please find below some interesting contributions to the Setac show and the On-line biomonitoring Session in particular:
